Another season and more disappointment, but this time it wasn't so much that the wheels came off but more like someone forgot to tighten the bolts before the season had actually started, leaving fans wondering what was going on. The "let's lose at home and win away" policy didn't make predicting easy for the punters, and with no crowds allowed in it made this a difficult campaign, which was reflected in a low scoring PP competition. In addition, the fact that we also had a manager change when Alex Neil left (just before he was certified insane judging by his post-match comments) in March, meant that no one knew what was going to happen come match day.

However, it made for an intriguing PP competition that went down to the last minute of the season before Mark (Walrus) was crowned champion for a second time. Long term leader Barry (HamiltonMachine) had built such a sizeable lead with just 6 games left that the bookies were already paying out on him being crowned champion, before a collapse allowed Mark to be 1 point behind going in to the last game. Barry had led the competition from match 27 to 23 minutes before the season ended when a second goal gave PNE victory at Nottingham Forest and handed the title to Mark, who took the honours by just 1 point.

As you can see below, the last 6 games changed everything, and nobody after game 40 expected the eventual outcome at that stage. It wasn't so much that the wheels came off for Barry but the engine fell out, the exhaust pipe broke off, the suspension gave way and the brakes failed all at the same time.

Well played Mark, and hard luck to Barry, who must be gutted at just missing out on his second PP title.

As mentioned earlier, it was a low-scoring competition because predicting what was going to happen was almost impossible. It wasn't helped by so many squad changes in January; would the new one's gel and would we miss the departing players? Form towards Easter was patchy, and it wasn't until the removal of Alex Neil in March that the season started to return to some sort of normality.

A couple of former winners - Mike (pneireland) and Glen (Glen-PNE)- made it to the top 6, as did James (Nobber61) once again, and they were joined by Marcus (pom), who enjoyed his first brush with the elite after a few close misses.

As for the cup competiton, Gary (CostaBlancaWhite) won the Trophy to become one of the elite punters who have won both the cup and league competitions, so congratulations to Gary for adding to his PP medal collection.

So the famous PP Trophy heads off back to good old England, who are now neck and neck with Australia on 5 titles. Which one will take the lead next season? Or could another country go for gold and upset the Big Two ?!
