The whitesdownunder.NET domain has always been owned by me, I got rid of it this year as I couldn't see the need in paying for it anymore.
----- Trev wrote "The question is: why did I let it go? Well, as I said, there was no longer a need for it." -----
So why bother getting another domain?
----- Trev wrote "It’s been around since 1997 on GeoCities, before things like Facebook or Google existed,
https://www.oocities.org/world.../whitesdownunder/index.html -----
You do realise that's not a domain don't you, it's a directory under www.oocities.org, which is the domain name.
----- Trev wrote "But the PP league lived comfortably in that domain on my Arvixe account until the end of last season." -----
Yes, I was good enough owning it, to let it reside on your hosting account because I'm nice like that, but had to move it (whitesdownunder.NET) to my site because you wouldn't fix the SSL issue after 2 years with the new system.
If you had fixed the SSL issue, my whitesdownunder.NET domain would still be on your arvixe account, running PP.
----- Trev wrote "Keith has access to the Arvixe site" -----
No Keith doesn't, when I tried in December to put the system back to your hosting account, you changed the password or username to block me, I have no access to your site, so can't do anything to help.
----- Trev wrote "However, we need some fresh blood (young whizzkids) who might be more inclined to support the ppreds rather than the wdu. (?)" -----
Why would a domain name mean the whizzkids would be more inclined to support a site, that doesn't make sense??
----- Trev wrote "My nephew Martin (aka PNE_Junior) did some rescue work for us a few years ago, keeping the site running" -----
Did he, what did he do to save us, and keep PP going, I honestly can't remember that, be interested to know, was it on the old PP system?
Anyway, after today I will be away for a while, and I have no idea when I'll be back, just depends on how things turn out, PP stuff will have to wait, as PP is very low on my priority list at the moment, other stuff going on has far more importance. |

Have a look and tell me what you reckon |
 | Drongo | 23-02-2026 06:32:29 |
| Well I think PP can be saved.
I let the Whites Downunder domain go as there was no longer a need for it, and I wasn't planning on renewing the hosting plan with Arvixe, which expires in November this year, as it's another $375+
However, I decided to buy a new domain for PP, hosting it at least temporarily on Arvixe, and to try transferring the software to a test directory where "volunteers" can take a look at the workings and set the thing up for another season. That's if Keith can do the honours and load the files back onto my Arvixe acct.
After 20 years, I reckon we should have Heritage Status, and get govt support , or maybe become a National Trust entity |
| | sagwhite | 23-02-2026 14:40:01 |
| ???? You let the whitesdownunder domain go? You didn't even own it to let it go, I am the one who has owned the domain for the last few years and been paying for it, I messaged you over a month ago to tell you that I was getting rid, as I have another domain that it can run on, the prestonne domain?? How weird, anyway, I am not at home at the moment and have limited connectivity, so it will be next weekend before I can do anything, subject to me feeling up to it. |

I wonder why this PP league keeps going anyway. Isn't there another predictions league for the North End?
But Keith, you couldn't have become the custodian of WDU if I had not let it go.
The question is: why did I let it go? Well, as I said, there was no longer a need for it. The PP league could live elsewhere, in some other domain, on some other server. And, as I also wrote, I’d bought a new domain for the purpose: www.ppreds.net and installed it on my Arvixe account. I thought that might be appropriate for taking PP into the future.
I did feel a twinge of remorse/nostalgia about waving bye-bye to the WDU site, though. It’s been around since 1997 on GeoCities, before things like Facebook or Google existed, but everything’s different now, and there’s no need for a site dedicated to Whites Downunder. But the PP league lived comfortably in that domain on my Arvixe account until the end of last season. I still have the hosting account, but no longer use it for my work, so I was planning to close it in November and save some dosh. That was before Keith began sending distress signals for PP on his Hostinger account. So what to do?
Do we save the WDU domain, or do we begin afresh ? I can assure my antipodean friends that there will always be more than a faint odour of the Outback around PP :-)
For anyone still reading: I did some searching, and...looking a bit odd in the archives, here are a couple of the old, old Whites Downunder pages:
https://www.oocities.org/worldwide_whites/whitesdownunder/index.html
BTW, I had totally forgotten about the “Andrews” files that you may be able to find there, but with the recent scandal involving the artiste formerly known as “Prince Andrew”, I reckon those pages were 20 years ahead of their time :-)

| Well done, Keith. You are going as well as PNE. Pretty good with just the occasional upset through no fault of your own. |

| Thanks David, much appreciated. |

| We have a working system again, sorry about the delay, the problem was
caused by a mysql update that I had no idea about. Not to worry, I will be
moving the site to a different server after the Oxford game.
To facilitate the move the site will be down for 24/36 hours from Sunday
afternoon, I will post information when page is ready again.
Thanks for your understanding/patience with the problems, Keith. |

| Don't worry Barb, I've already fixed it that you'll be top when I get the database back 😜😜 |
 | sagwhite | 09-12-2025 14:52:58 |
| Apologies for the problems that are currenty occuring in PP, I am trying to fathom out why the table has been blank seems like someone has managed to run a table regeneration that didn't work so we are back too week one.
The system has to stay as it is, as folks may want to input their predictions for the Coventry game.
After the game the system will be offline, while I try and figure out what happened so as to avoid further problems, and to try and fix the table so we are back to a working system.
I'll post on facebook when the site is back online again, thanks for your patience. |

 | crusader | 06-08-2025 10:26:37 |
| Good to see the league back in action. I’ll do my best to have more input this season than last. |
 | sagwhite | 02-07-2025 14:07:19 |
| PP is once again open for business for the 2025-26 season, so any early birds wishing to predict can now go ahead.
There have been some changes to the software for organisation purposes, you hopefully won't notice these, but if anyone finds a problem could they let me know asap, thanks.
I have added one new option, "All Future Preds", it's on the left menu after you have logged in. This allows punters to input the same prediction for all remaining games, home and away. It can be useful as using this ensures you have a prediction for all remaining games, just in case you forget to predict or miss any games. Let's say you predict for a 2-1 loss for the away game at QPR, and then predict a 1-1 draw in the home game against Leicester, using this new option will set all away games to a 2-1 loss, and all home games to a 1-1 draw. You then only need to login to change your predictions when you think the outcome may be different. |
 | sagwhite | 17-05-2025 18:23:30 |
| Bit delayed due to other things needing my time, but yes it's finally here, the season summary and congratulations to Marcus. Click on the link above in red to view, or The Hall of Fame button on the left menu under PP History. |
 | Drongo | 14-05-2025 05:52:23 |
| Apologies for this year's somewhat tardy end-of-season report. Sometimes life gets in the way, but rest assured that the staff at PP Head Office had every intention of "getting round to it" as soon as possible. Not long now :-) |
 | davidmyer | 06-05-2025 16:24:21 |
| Yes a 2-1 home win for every prediction was a good effort this season. Interestingly a 1-1 draw predicted for every game would have earned 105 points and the marvellous Preston Predictions trophy |
| | Drongo | 14-05-2025 10:27:08 |
| And another interesting/depressing thing: entering a 0-0 result for every game would have clocked up eight six-pointers for Correct Score - more than everyone but Ellie managed this year :-( |
| | sagwhite | 21-05-2025 21:15:18 |
| Interesting fact David about the 1-1, this season is only 4 out of 20 competitions where entering the same score for every game would have won you the title, the other years being 2021-22 (1-0), 202-21 (0-1) and 2012-13 (1-0). |
 | davidmyer | 06-05-2025 16:18:28 |
| Well done, Pom. Keeping the Australian flag flying at the top. Great effort in a really difficult season. It will be interesting to see if other competitors use the same tactics next season. Bad luck to Bedford White who led the competition for most of the season. And well done the organisers of the competition once again. |

| I noticed the result against Oxford obviously wasn’t what most thought it would be with only 2 of us getting the correct result. I feel it’s going to be a rough month or 2 before the ship is steadied and the wins start going our way. It’s going to be a long season |
| | Drongo | 03-09-2024 04:18:39 |

Our collective wave of desperate optimism is understandable, though perhaps tactically imprudent for those seeking success in this brutally combative venue of Preston Predictions. I see even Bazza went for an uncharacteristic starry-eyed draw 😏 |

| | Drongo | 20-05-2024 11:12:41 |

But particular mention to Tricky One who would have won if he'd gone for a 0-1 or 0-2 in this final game. Huge thanks to Trevor and Keith for holding the whole thing together especially with the various software hassles thrown up this season. I must say it has been good fun once again, and the reason for that in my view, is that you organisers have pitched the spirit exactly right. Well done.

| It was also decided by the Supreme Council that Spain has had quite enough PP success for the time being, and that the 'see others' predictions' should be switched off for the duration (thus shielding our patrons from the temptation of indulging in the unseemly and unsporting practice of 'tactical predicting')

Hopefully Uncle Trevor will have put in place a good sucession plan. |

| Seeing the news Trevor Hemmings has passed away is devastating. I found out in the last 11 years he has invested 37 million into the club, keeping it afloat. My concern now is will we continue to have a financial backing like that or not? I fear the club could be made to be self funding, which will probably end up dropping down into League 1 or 2. |

We're having a few PP emails returned to us. These are mainly Gmail addresses (Martin, Jo, Barb, Barry) because they're marked as SPAM. So, if you would like to receive these mails, just mark them as 'not spam'. These are just notifications of your own predictions etc. as we hardly ever send other emails from PP.
A couple of yahoo addresses are also being rejected: Garybut and Glen. Same story :-)
Cheers! |

 | walrus | 25-02-2021 23:03:36 |
| Wow, looks like I'm in a two horse race... |

 | sagwhite | 12-09-2020 16:13:57 |
| Now then folks do not forget our cup game on Tuesday night, away at Derby or Rooney County as they are now called, get predicting ! |
 | sagwhite | 10-09-2020 15:03:21 |
| I've moved to Gibraltar so I'm in |
 | crusader | 08-09-2020 20:38:25 |
| Hey I'm top of the pile :) |
 | sagwhite | 31-08-2020 14:42:49 |
| Folks have asked us on occasions if we can setup some sort of reminder before games so they don't forget to predict, well we are pleased to announce that we asked the IT department if anything could be done and received 2 answers, the 1st was f**k off but after they realised the Dog & Duck was shut due to the lockdown they sobered up enough to come out with a second reply which seems to have done the trick.
So I can now announce that email reminders are available for every game if folks would like to 'opt in' to the scheme, to 'opt in' go to 'My Profile' and check the box for the new option of email reminders, once checked you will receive an email some 32'36 hours before each match if you haven't already predicted. If folks choosing this option would like to check their email address as well in case of any changes.
There you have it, in future any punter coming up with the phrase 'I forgot to predict' will see them suffer a points deduction if they haven't opted in.!!
Good luck to all for the new season. |

| Hmm - I don't know, Bazza. It might well be a record. Not sure how long we've been running the Cup Comp. It seems longer than our Hall of Fame records show. I'll have a wander into the dusty cellars of our archive section here at PP Towers. |
 | Drongo | 01-08-2020 07:12:44 |

 | davidmyer | 22-07-2020 22:52:25 |
| Bravo, Trev. Well done and couldn't have happened to better bloke.
Thanks to you and to Keith for putting in the effort to make it a fun part of the PNE experience. We can now all stay home and sulk until next season... |
 | Drongo | 22-07-2020 00:23:15 |
| Just looking at the list of predicted scores for this last game; there are NINE different final scores predicted by our punters and ALL of them are perfectly plausible right now. This is a far cry from the confidence we enjoyed in mid-season :-( |
 | Drongo | 20-07-2020 21:22:45 |
| Well if David hits the jackpot this time, I think I would need more than one point because otherwise he would win on the number of CS
This is just too nerve-wracking ! My pills ... where are my pills?? |
 | sagwhite | 20-07-2020 12:15:18 |
| So David it's 6 points required and hope Trev gets 0! Tall order but stranger things have happened in the past, if Trev goes into adminstration before Wednesday we would have to apply a 12 point deduction so there is still hope. |
 | sagwhite | 20-07-2020 12:01:16 |
| Looked like it was to be a record points total at one stage but the 124pts by Walrus in 2014-15 will still stand after the last game, half way stage had the leader on 70pts which was amazing sadely the last half of the season has been a low scoring affair. |
 | Drongo | 19-07-2020 01:03:00 |
| Absolutely! I can't tell you how much I agonised over that last prediction :-)
I think you may be right about the record points haul, but then everyone in the top spots has done well in that regard - probably a reflection of how well PNE were going for most of the season. |
 | davidmyer | 18-07-2020 23:18:39 |
| Great time to get a correct result and score, Drongo. Just coming off the bend. Pressure's on now. 115 must be a record already, isn't it? |
 | Drongo | 27-03-2020 06:31:15 |
| It's hard to see this season being played to a natural conclusion. Some speculative dates are being put forward for a resumption, but I can see so many reasons why it can't suddenly be business as usual on any given date in the foreseeable future just because some bunch of officials name that particular date. Whatever happens, it will be a contrived, unnatural finish to the Championship season, lucky for some and desperately unfair for others. |
 | hamiltonmachine | 18-03-2020 05:24:19 |
| So, you will be declaring this season's competition null and void Trev? Shame when you were so close to winning it! ;) |
 | Drongo | 29-02-2020 10:15:30 |

 | davidmyer | 26-11-2019 21:43:51 |
| Wow, Drongo. What a pace you are setting. 52 after 17 is world record breaking stuff. Normally the leader is around 100 at the end of the season and we are six games short of half way. It just shows that not everyone in Preston is pessimistic. |

| Ta for the congrats, great to be the 1st punter to win it twice but an honourable mention must go to Barry who almost made me do a Devon Loch and fall close to the finishing line, after halfway I thought I had it sewn up but some excellent predicting (especially M'boro away) cut the lead to 6 points at one stage and had me thinking I might just have blown it. Congrats to the others in the top 6, some familiar names there to be seen! |

| I feel your pain David. I think this may be the first season when I've managed to predict on all the games. However, I still only managed a paltry two correct scores from all those 46 matches!
I wouldn't worry too much about being pipped by yours truly though. Nobody remembers who came fourth :-(
Congrats to sagwhite for holding on to the lead for such a long time, and hard luck Bazza - you made it a closer finish than looked likely.
Now it's time to update this site, if time can be found. Thanks for playing, everyone :-) |
 | davidmyer | 27-04-2019 23:41:03 |
| Just looking back at the comments, I see that at one stage PNE were 20th and playing Bolton 3rd. How things change. |
 | davidmyer | 27-04-2019 23:38:37 |
| How could I have been stupid enough not to notice my 1-1 prediction for the Owls had not been registered? I always check the predictions have gone in , but not this time and now Drongo of all people has gone ahead of me to lead the Australian contingent. This is devastating. A bit like PNE finishing 12th instead of 11th when they thought they had it won. Just not careful enough.
Well it looks like we have a winner. Congratulations to Sagwhite as the first person to win the title more than once. Splendid effort. Well done. |
 | hamiltonmachine | 21-04-2019 09:45:11 |

 | Drongo | 14-03-2019 00:13:27 |
| It all seems a bit suspicious to me David. I do hope our Kiwi friend has not decided to use his undoubted influence and great wealth to affect the outcome of our matches. |
 | davidmyer | 13-03-2019 23:00:15 |
| Great pick by the Hamilton Machine. How did he know there would be a controversial sending-off to swing it for us? Respect. |
 | Drongo | 13-03-2019 03:27:02 |
| With most of us predicting a defeat or a draw, I was idly wondering who among us was predicting a 1-2 victory against Boro. To my amazement I find our usually pessimistic Kiwi is among them. Are you feeling quite well,Bazza? Or perhaps you're in possession of some valuable inside information that you'd like to share with the rest of us? |
 | Drongo | 13-12-2018 05:28:00 |

I'm not sure how that differs from what's already on offer. If you click on your (or anyone's) ID on the league table, it will show all the predictions you've made. If you click on the
'My Missing Predictions' link on the left, it will show all the games you have not yet predicted on, and this link can be used by those who enter all their predictions in one go. Of course, you may return and alter any of your predictions up until shortly before kick-off. If you've predicted on all the games then you can see all your predictions on one page just by clicking the ID in the table. |
 | pom | 11-12-2018 21:27:46 |
| I thought I had put my predictions in for some time, however it turns out I hadn't and I lost out on a few weeks of predictions, dropping me down the table. With this in mind, rather than putting each individual match prediction in, can the site be changed so we ca see all out predictions on one page for the whole season? This would also make it easier for people who put in predictions in one go rather than people who predict each week |
 | Drongo | 06-12-2018 06:59:58 |

 | Drongo | 05-10-2018 02:52:57 |
| Forgetting to predict may be one good ploy, but it might not be a foolproof method of gaining success. I shot up the league by a massive one position simply by keying in the now-obligatory three goals conceded. It's a funny old game! |

Anyway, ladies and gentlemen, we now have an opportunity to cover ourselves in Cup Glory, so place your bets for the Boro game :-) |

 | Drongo | 31-08-2018 21:36:38 |
| I know exactly what you mean David. Having watched no games, and relying only on the occasional match report from an eye-witness, there is no logic involved in my own predictions other than the dubious notion that things can't go on being dire forever. It must be the Micawber Principle at work in all of us :-) |
 | davidmyer | 31-08-2018 11:47:03 |
| PNE 20th and Bolton 3rd. And no-one has predicted a Bolton win? With mugs like that how can I fail to win this and why am I doing so badly? I've picked a win for PNE too. What is the matter with me? We are a bunch of desparates. |
 | Drongo | 27-08-2018 10:11:26 |

A recent photo of those who won a Podium Place would be useful for the Hall of Fame update, and everyone is invited to the totally huge and massive Glittering Grand Gala Awards Ceremony. |
 | costablanca white | 07-05-2018 11:51:00 |
| Thanks David, I changed my original 3-0 just before setting off for the match to a optimistic 3-1. If we had kept 11 players on the pitch I think it would have been a much easier and a larger win. Having moved back to the UK and seeing a large part of the games live I'm sure heart overrules head sometimes. It's been a great season and winning Preston Predictions has made up for PNE not getting into the play-offs, it's not the way round I would have preferred though. Hopefully PNE can make the promised land next season. |
 | davidmyer | 06-05-2018 15:51:31 |
| Well done Costablanca. Too good in the end. I originally tipped a 2-1 win but changed to a 1-1 draw expecting you to pick 2 or 3 -1. six points would not have been enough if you were to score three. Nice try but not good enough! Maybe next year.
It was bad luck to the PNE boys but I think we might have struggled in the play-offs |
 | Drongo | 28-04-2018 14:40:24 |
| North End may have managed to take the season to a cliff-hanger of a finish, but the real excitement lies here in Preston Predictions. With only a couple of points separating the top two contestants, once again the destination of the PP trophy will not be decided until the last game of the season. Nail-biting stuff indeed! |
 | Drongo | 05-03-2018 16:19:44 |
| For those of us who are losing confidence in our ability to compete in this most demanding of all leagues; remember, there's always a way! |
 | Drongo | 17-02-2018 03:00:26 |
| Hmmmm.... I'm not sure about that, Roy. You're only one six-point jackpot away from my current top-six spot, so I would imagine the Board may decide to give bonus points only to those who live in Toowoomba, and whose surnames begin with 'W' |
 | costablanca white | 16-02-2018 18:11:56 |
| Well, don't forget me, 13th Jan was my first. Do I qualify? |
 | northern light | 07-02-2018 09:54:47 |
| Would have been a wiser choice by the board if they had awarded him the bonus points before the season, to honour his efforts to make this event possible, than to change the rules during the season. |
 | Drongo | 03-02-2018 13:46:00 |
| Well life is full of surprises, J-A. Over brandy and cigars, and after due consideration, the Board decided that it might be fitting to award bonus points to Drongo in recognition of his having just scored his first CS of the season. |
 | northern light | 03-02-2018 10:49:24 |
| The board now will give... |
 | northern light | 03-02-2018 10:48:31 |
| I guess that the now will give a prompt - 'no case' response to such a claim. |
 | Drongo | 01-02-2018 17:22:47 |
| I certainly think some bonus points may be awarded to anyone who is in the top 16 after Xmas without having a CS to their name. I'll raise it at the next Board Meeting. Now then - do we have a mugshot of our reigning champion for the (recently updated) Hall of Fame? |
 | davidmyer | 30-01-2018 16:08:53 |
| Time to update the Hall of Fame, putting Australia ahead for the first time? No, it's really all about me, me, me.
|
 | davidmyer | 30-01-2018 16:06:51 |
| Is there a reward of some sort for going misere, Drongo? A whole season with no CS points = an auto victory? |
 | hamiltonmachine | 27-01-2018 15:30:38 |
 | Drongo | 27-01-2018 14:41:37 |
| Well that ends our Cup competition for another year. So, without further ado, it only remains for us to open the envelope and discover who has won the sparkling PP Cup Comp trophy.
And the winner is... ... ... HamiltonMachine.
Congratulations Bazza! |

 | sagwhite | 05-08-2017 05:20:54 |
| all fixtures are in so predicting can begin, problem is most whites down under are in bed so only europeans can take advantage, bit unfair unless we set them up a 1-1 prediction for anyone who misses, otherwise I think we should scrap the game but if someone gets in right? |
 | Drongo | 05-08-2017 05:15:13 |

| Havent been at home so i did not have the time to set this up as usual. Back today soi can do the business but too late for todays game |
 | Drongo | 05-08-2017 02:47:44 |
| Greetings all - our comp will run this year but we may have a delayed start as I've only just got back to England and a keyboard. I suggest you email your prediction for the first game to pp@whitesdownunder.net and we'll see whether or not to include this game according to how many folk enter a prediction this way. |
 | Glen- Pne | 05-08-2017 02:30:22 |
| Ready ..... steady..... STOP ! Help, am positive we will win 10 - 0 today, shame I can't make my prediction!! Hoping we can have a belated start? |
 | costablanca white | 04-08-2017 17:05:51 |
| Looks like this comp is not going to happen, pity |
 | davidmyer | 04-08-2017 04:12:38 |
| Only just got to your response John-Arne. I will follow your advice to the letter and certainly ask my partner why we aren't going to Norway.
How are we going on the Prediction Comp for this year Drongo? I'm predicting a 1-0 home win against Sheff Wed.
|
 | walrus | 29-06-2017 14:19:26 |
| Todays news may well see me need to make a change to my 1-0 win prediction tactic. Grayson is so selfish. |

| It seems like you are missing the target David, as Iceland is too far west from where you really want to go. Mind you, Iceland an be seen Norway's Australia, as it is a place where our not so wanted citizens had to go back in the days. Unlike Australia, however, there is no reason to believe that I eland will offer you a sunstrike whilst you're there. You still want to bring your swimming gear though, as the Blue Lagune will offer you a swim in really warm waters. Make sure to put the original Geysir and Gullfoss on your to do list. Iceland's recent football achievements will be a good conversation topic with the natives. Please ask them why their coach did go to Norway. Then, perhaps ask yourself why you did not. |

| Looks Terrific, Walrus. Pity about the palm oil. Maybe we will wait till we get there...

| Thanks John-Arne. You're right though: banter is life's lubricant. Everything goes better with banter. That's why I enjoy shopping in the local market. And that's why the old email list was such fun. Facebook is not the same. Ahh, when I were a boy... And of course nostalgia ain't what it used to be. Incidentally we are talking about a trip to Iceland in September. Any ideas? |
 | northern light | 09-05-2017 11:50:05 |
| Congratulations, David! Amazing consistency over two seasons. Glad you picked this season and not last season to peak. A dissapointing season on my part, but not as dissapointing as the lack of banter here. Must be too many people on here that have a life outside football. |
 | Drongo | 08-05-2017 01:04:41 |
| Oh I disagree, David. This is a test of skill, relying on a deep understanding of football 'at this level', together with profound knowledge of current form, the physical condition of every player in both lineups for every team, a consideration of Grayson's strategy on the day and the prevailing weather and pitch condition. You're being too modest :-) |
 | davidmyer | 08-05-2017 00:18:47 |
| Thanks for the adulation. That is glory enough for me. Who needs a trophy? Very lucky really - as evidenced I suspect by the fact that we have had a different winner every year. Talent is irrelevant. Also a good thing that Sagwhite, Dazzla and even Cloud9 PNE10 who didn't forecast the full amount but each averaged better than 2 points a game. Might have been very close.
Great little competition Drongo. well organised and well managed.
Already looking to retain my crown next year. |

| OK - it's now official - David Myer has won the coveted PP title for Australia. Very well played, David. |
 | Drongo | 04-05-2017 20:56:56 |
| The Board has no objection to the revamping of the august institution known as Preston Predictions - a name chosen hastily and long, long ago simply for its mnemonic connotation (PP). We might have some sport with this over the close season in our Facebook group. Any suggestions for this - and anything else- are welcome at any time though. |
 | davidmyer | 03-05-2017 00:10:15 |
| Thanks Snow White. Without wishing to pre-judge the final result, it will be very nice to wear a mantle that I think has been worn by your goodself in seasons past.
And Drongo, never mind a satisfactory year for our beloved team, it has been a satisfactory year for the Prediction competition thingy. Incidentally, does it need a proper name with a bit of branding attached to it? Preston Predictions is a bit flat (with great respect to the originator, of course). Perhaps a naming competition in the off season? Certainly better than the old days when we all told stories about what was in our lunchtime sandwiches. |
 | Glen- Pne | 01-05-2017 01:31:45 |
| Congrats David Champ and David Runner up. Good game, good game all |
 | Drongo | 30-04-2017 20:40:53 |
| Greetings, all.
I reckon this has been a satisfactory year for our beloved team, even though it has not ended in the trip to Wembley that looked a faint possibility before things began to go wrong in the last few games.
It does look very much as if the winner of this year's world famous Preston Predictions competition has been decided. With only one game to go, David Myer would have to do something spectacularly silly to allow David Ingram to snatch the crown on goal difference. But it's a funny old game, so I think we'll leave the official announcement, congratulations and prize-giving until after the Wolves game.
Some newcomers to this contest have done well this year, and in order to prepare the season summary for this year I would ask everyone who's in the top ten positions to let us have a recent photo we can use for the purpose. Anyone else can send in a photo too, of course, and it would be good to see what everyone looks like anyway.
The running of the competition has been remarkably trouble-free this season, which is just as well since this has been a surprisingly busy year for yours truly (hence the infrequent updating of the site's banner, wallpaper, towels and toilet paper etc. etc. My apologies)
Please send photos either via our Facebook Group, or using the 'email us' link on the left. Thanks! |
 | northern light | 30-04-2017 06:12:49 |
| I believe we have a new champion... |
 | davidmyer | 13-04-2017 18:49:03 |
| It's definitely too soon to call. A couple of correct predictions is all it takes to overtake Australia. I hate this being chased thing. I would far rather be tucked in on the leader's shoulder. I can't stand the pressure. I feel like Greg Norman with an eight shot lead going into the last day of the most important tournament in the world, which this Prediction thingy surely is. |
 | Drongo | 18-03-2017 16:02:39 |
| For calculating the goal difference, Roy, we use a highly complex and sophisticated algorithm, specially developed for us by the in-house boffins here at PP HQ. Personally, I prefer the system we used in earlier times involving lots of beer and a dartboard, but it seems even the PP organisation must bend before the inexorable march of technology :-(
Here's how it's done these days:
For each correct teams number of goals you score, you receive that number of +goals. e.g. you predict 2 and the team scores 2,
you get +2 goals.
For each incorrect number of goals you predict per team, you lose the difference in goals. e.g. you predict 3 and the team scores 2, you get -1 goals. |
 | Drongo | 18-03-2017 15:29:09 |
| Would that be the Fulham game, Mr Walrus? In which case I'm sure your support made all the difference. |
 | walrus | 17-03-2017 09:38:56 |
| I went on a game recently, can you guess which one? |
 | costablanca white | 16-03-2017 21:58:39 |
| How does the For and against work Trevor?
PNE IRELAND is a disaster |
 | northern light | 25-02-2017 07:43:30 |
| If you feel a bit like Leicester, I must honestly say that I feel a LOT like Leicester. Still have confidence in my manager, so a sacking is out of the question. Aiming to get on par with Maso, to beat him on goal difference. |
 | davidmyer | 21-02-2017 03:17:04 |
| I feel a bit like Leicester. But unlike them I have doubts about whether I can keep it going. |
 | hamiltonmachine | 18-02-2017 19:44:51 |
| Sorry Trev for pushing you back to 3rd, in my defense I did put North End down for a win against the Brummies... |
 | Drongo | 18-02-2017 14:15:09 |
| What? Only third? Damn you, Bazza ... you and your Pessimistic Predictions! |
 | Drongo | 24-01-2017 18:15:01 |
| Well I may not have been up there with the leading pack too much in recent times, Bazza, but cast your mind back to our inaugural season - over a decade ago now - when I finished second, and not so many years later I was runner-up again, so there!
I've been very much distracted over recent months though, and missed a couple of games - not the sort of stuff of which champions are made :-( |
 | hamiltonmachine | 22-01-2017 17:24:24 |
| Bloody hell Trev! Never seen you so high in the league |
 | Drongo | 26-12-2016 13:10:57 |
| Bugger! Just when I was doing so well :-(
|
 | northern light | 22-12-2016 01:39:52 |
| Apart from Mr. Myer's glittering and consistent predictions, this competition strikes me as a bit dull at the moment. Even the gentlemen (Maso & Abitrich)who have made silly number predictions have been allowed to do so without comment. Personally, I wonder what to think of Drongo's thoughts about the Villa game coming up next year. |
 | Drongo | 21-12-2016 14:20:15 |
| Sometimes my thingy doesn't work either, Johnno; I think it's age-related :-( |
 | Drongo | 20-12-2016 14:54:15 |
| The next Giant-Killing Cup game is now available for your attention :-) |
 | Drongo | 20-12-2016 14:43:07 |
| Hmmm.... that's quite a decent lead you have, David. I think I need to concentrate a little more. |
 | costablanca white | 18-12-2016 19:01:11 |
| Dont look now, but your in the sights of a Canuck |
 | davidmyer | 17-12-2016 15:32:11 |

Probably another denizen of Perth. I bet Johnno knew him :-) |
 | davidmyer | 29-11-2016 07:00:39 |

| 'Hearing today that John McDougall has sadly passed away. He was living in Australia and involved in an accident last weekend which left him in a coma.
Didn't know him that well but saw him around Deepdale in his younger years and he was well known to many.
A Crowdfunding page has been set-up to help his family who've traveled to Australia to be by his side in his final days.

Sad news been posted on the PNE Online forum. Was John one of the competitors or known to the Aussies on here? |

 | Drongo | 23-08-2016 02:23:40 |
| Well really! I have to say - I do feel it's jolly bad form to take the lead in a competition to which one has just been kindly invited. Most discourteous. In fact, I'm almost sure there's something about it in PP's Great Book of Rules (currently unavailable) |
 | walrus | 21-08-2016 13:16:34 |
